One thing I like about this artist is that he really didn’t give a shit about what was in fashion at the time. He just painted whatever he wanted in whatever style he wanted and the art world could eff off if they wanted any sort of conformity to standards of the time. You can see this when you do even a cursory flip through his work. It’s all over the place, but it’s all great. This piece in particular is called Náufragos or “Survivors of the Shipwreck” (1876).
